MasterClass cancellation guide

How to Cancel a MasterClass Subscription

MasterClass cannot be cancelled in the app. You have to use a web browser — and on a phone, ignore the prompt pushing you into the app.

Quick answer

The app cannot cancel

MasterClass states that cancellations cannot be made through the MasterClass app and that you must log in at www.masterclass.com using a web browser.

  • Web purchases: Settings → Membership → Cancel Membership → Cancel Now.
  • The subscription is set to cancel at the end of the current billing period and stays active until the renewal date.
  • If you bought through the iOS App Store or Google Play, the cancellation has to be completed in that store.
  • Within the first 30 days, MasterClass says you may be eligible for a refund.

Before you cancel

  • Work out who charged you — MasterClass directly, the iOS App Store, or Google Play. The place you cancel changes completely.
  • Check whether you are inside the first 30 days — it decides whether a refund is possible.
  • Make sure you can still access the email address used at sign-up — MasterClass has a separate process if you cannot.
  • If the subscription began as a gift membership, MasterClass says it may renew automatically once the gift period ends.

Cancelling auto-renewal on the web

These steps follow MasterClass's own article. On-screen labels can change.

  1. Log in from a web browser

Log into your account at www.masterclass.com in a browser. The app cannot do this.

View MasterClass's official cancellation article (opens an external site)

  2. Open Settings from the top-right menu

Click your profile or account menu in the top right, then select Settings.

  3. In Membership, click Cancel Membership

In Account Settings, find the Membership section and click Cancel Membership.

  4. Select Cancel Now

On the next screen, select Cancel Now to confirm. MasterClass states you receive a confirmation email once processed.

Doing this on a phone

  • Log in at www.masterclass.com using a mobile browser, not the app.
  • MasterClass says to ignore the Go to the App button when prompted.
  • Tap the menu icon in the top right to reach subscription settings, then follow the steps above.

App store purchases

MasterClass states that purchases made through the iOS App Store or Google Play must be cancelled directly in that store.

iOS App Store
MasterClass maintains a separate article for iOS App Store billing; the cancellation happens in App Store subscription settings.
Google Play
Google Play billing has its own article as well; the cancellation happens in Google Play subscription settings.

If the renewal date passes and the cancellation has not taken effect, MasterClass directs you to the app store's support team. Citing section 3.3 of its Terms of Service, it states it is not responsible for processing or resolving cancellations, renewals, or refunds for subscriptions bought through third-party marketplaces.

After you cancel

  • Look for the confirmation email — MasterClass states one is sent once the cancellation is processed.
  • Access continues to the renewal date, so note when that is.
  • To restart later, MasterClass says you can sign in and select Reactivate in your settings.

If you use a cancellation service

MasterClass states that a cancellation requested through a third-party subscription-management service such as Xpendy, Trim, or Rocket Money still has to be confirmed directly with the account holder. Not replying to that confirmation email delays it.
